By sharing your experience, insight, and time, you can support a young person at an important stage in their journey and help them see what’s possible.

About you

Our criteria for mentors

We undertake a rigorous recruitment process to ensure that mentors have the skills, motivation and commitment to make a positive impact on their mentee. All mentors are also required to undertake background checks, i.e. DBS checks.
We usually recruit mentors who satisfy the criteria set out below:

Commitment

  • Able to attend a 2 day training programme
  • Able to commit for at least 6 months

Skills & Traits

  • Good listener
  • Motivated and Resourceful
  • Non-judgemental
  • Be empathetic and understanding
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Willing to motivate the mentees 
  • Willing to share knowledge and experiences

Our training for mentors

Prior to commencing mentoring, all mentors are trained to ensure that they understand their role and are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to support their mentees.

Mentors are trained to plan sessions and to focus on:

Mentors are also trained to address the following:
